January 12, 2013 Surprise

Here is my surprise. I've had cats all my life. I don't think I have been without a cat since I was ten years old. If I have, it wasn't for long. However, I decided I wanted my very own dog. I became my plan to convince my husband I needed one. I pointed out dogs in parks, I sent him pictures of dogs, etc. Finally, in July of 2012 I adopted Miss Kona from the local animal shelter. This is a baby picture but I used it toady because I truly was surprised that I was going to get to take her home.  She is a border collie mix.

January 11, 2012 Water

Water...wow as I thought of I this, I realized I take a lot of pictures of water; the beach, lakes, rivers, etc.  I have so many pictures I love, but this is supposed to be a picture a day thing and I wanted to use a picture I took on this day.  On the way home I thought I would capture a picture of the headlights of cars reflecting on the half frozen lake.I would have stayed long to try and get better pictures but frankly, it was freezing.

January 10, 2013 One O'lock

Rough topic; couldn't think of anything inspiring.  I work pretty long hours so it can be difficult to get out and take pictures. On this day though, it rained while I was driving to lunch. Since we are in the middle of a drought, the rain drops seemed like a good subject.

Raindrops keep falling.....

January 9, 2013 Paper

I was looking in my hopechest for something entirely differnt and came across a paper I forgot I had. It was my son's handprints from preschool, and a little poem. It brought tears to my eyes.  All other ideas related to paper went right out the window. He'll be 25 in March.

January 8 - Something that starts with a "T"

I thought about this topic for quite some time; there are so many things and topics that begin with T.  We go hiking on vacation so I always have pictures of trees but which tree? It was VERY cold this day. It is winter in Nebraska after all, but then I remembered a particular tree I photographed while on vacation a few years ago. This is one of my very favorite places on the planet.

Later in the day, the cat, "Lunch", was caught eating snacks in his cat tree. I posted a second picture, just for fun.

January 7, 2013 - Street

Dusty Dog is sick and it has been a long night with little sleep. No picture taking for me today. I am sharing a picture I took in Siem Reap, Cambodia. I love this country and really want to go back.
People should; people must travel in order to better understand the world.

January 6, 2013 - Mine

Ths is a picture of my baby bracelets. These were the first thing assigned as mine. These are tarnished, and show their age; like me. :)  When I saw the topic for today I knew I had to take a picture of these. Someone referred me to some free photo editing software that allows me to add captions. Thank you stranger.

I hope you enjoy.

January 5, 2013 - Movement

I am going to get some traditional photos of the dog later but I realized, as I thought about it, that there are many types of movement, and movement does not have to involve physical movement.

Passing of time; moving through life from birth to death, is also movement.

Below is a collage I created which centers on my Grandmother from age 4 to shortly before she passed at age 83.

I miss my Grandma so much.

Here are a couple of pictures of my dog Kona. I was playing with capturing physical movement. I need to practice this.

In this one she appears ghostlike.

This one shows her movement as she playbed frisbee in the snow.

I continue to practice.

January 4, 2013 - View from here

This time of year it is always dark when I go to work; dark when I come home. On top of that, it was 15 degrees when I left for work today. Today's photo topic is "view from here". I could think of some really nice shot but frankly, it was too darn cold to bother. I took the picture below and by the time I finished with this poor example, my hands were going numb.  Since tomorrow is Saturday, I can actually get out in the day light.

I live in NW Omaha, on the edge of town. Just north of my house is farmland. I love driving by this farm and so I took a quick picture of the view I enjoy most in my neighborhood.

January 3, 2013 - Heart

Yesterday for the photo challenge the topic was "heart".  It's dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home, and it is VERY cold. These things make it difficult to get outside to take pictures. I thought about this topic quite a bit then walked into m office and realized I had a good subject there. The picture below is one I bought for myself for Christmas. I purchased it from a local artist. If you look at it you will see unfinished hearts. Isn't that how we all are really?  I love this picture.

January 1, 2013 - Today and New

I started a new 365 day photo project yesterday.  Here are my first two photos along with the theme for each day.

For day 1, January 1, 2013, the theme was "today".  Since it was cold, company had gone home, and it was quiet,  I just took a picture of my cat warming my feet. This is Lunch our 13 year old grey and white cat. We adore him.

Day 2 and the theme is "new".  I really wanted to capture of a picture of the sunrise but couldn't get close to where I wanted to be due to snow. So, the other new thing in my life is my experience as a dog owner.I've always had cats and I have my very first dog of my own; a border collie named Kona.

Yes, in retrospect a calmer dog breed might have been a good idea but she is very entertaining. Sometimes, rarely, she settles down for a few seconds and I can actually pet her. This picture is of her jumping in the air for a bit of hot dog while my husband runs her through her tricks. The dog below is our 17 year old beagle, Dusty.

Tomorrow's theme is "heart". I'm going to have to think on that for a while.

Just thinking of the topic reminds me of the passing of my friend Mitzi, too young, from heart disease.  Very sad.

New Beginnings and Endings

This is a picture of Dusty, our 17+ year plus Beagle/Basset. Today is probably her last New Year's Day. She has lived a long life full of love. Today she is resting in the sun. So, she is coming to her end, though she is not yet there.

This New Year's Day I plan to start my New Beginnings and to put my health above all.

I also strive to take one photo a day to express where I am and how I am feeling.
